The Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) reported the employment for furloughed workers in November, leaving the total at 57 institutes and 4,311 unpaid workers — the highest level in the past six months
The CLA noted that employers should not abuse the “unpaid leave” right and that it should be authorized under the regulations of the Labor Standard Act. Employers will need to strike a written agreement with employees before the workers are sent on unpaid leave, the council stated
In an effort to support workers who are financially disadvantaged, the CLA put forth a “labor relief loan” program, allowing applicants a loan up to NT$100,000. The loan is limited to applicants under the labor insurance program for at least 15 years. According to the programan accumulated number of 230,000 applicants have not paid off their labor relief loans, totaling a debt of NT$17.5 billion
