Beijing is now the second most expensive city in Asia, up from fifth position last year, and 15th in the world. Shanghai is in fourth place in Asia and 18th in the world, while Hong Kong is the eighth most expensive city in Asia and 28th in the world.

The ECA International said the cost of living in Taipei rose slightly from last year and it rose at the slower pace compared to other countries, causing the drop of its position, making the city more attractive to international business. The ECA International conducts a survey on cost of living of 400 cities around the world twice a year, measuring from prices of products such as milk, vegetables and food. The survey did not address costs of accommodation, utilities, car and education fee.
