Permanent Secretary Emphasizes Employment for Handicapped Workers

         Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntri Smiti chaired the awarding ceremony at the “Good Society Expo” held at Central World today (9 June 2017). In her speech she said, “The Ministry of Labour is responsible for workforce management which is a crucial element to national development. The ministry has working strategies which aims to ensure total employment, with quality welfare and protection with access to social security and skills development in preparation for the workforce. One of its importance missions is to eliminate inequality and to create income, employment and professions amongst the handicapped population. In the past, the ministry has accelerated efforts to promote employment for handicapped workers through integrative efforts with all relevant units from the public, private and social sectors, so that they can become self-sufficient and experience improved lives for themselves, their families and community.”
         “In 2016, the Ministry of Labour announced its policy and target to create employment for 10,000 handicapped workers. In 2017, statistics have shown that handicapped employment under Section 35 has increased by over 6,000, decreasing fund contributions by 600 million Baht. The Social Innovation Foundation has been core to these efforts, and the Ministry of Labour will continue to drive its mission to further success within this year,” concluded the Permanent Secretary.
