Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti spoke on the occasion of chairing the International Woman’s Day for 2017 at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel. In her speech, she congratulated and commended 27 outstanding women who were awarded this year. Women have become a larger part of national development, particularly in businesses which have in turn generated more revenue for the nation. This is particularly true in important industries such as electronics, gems and accessories, apparel and processed foods which employ large populations of women.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour further stated that the services industry continues to be a major contributor to the national economy, and is an industry where women are at the core. She said that women have become an integral part of society and economic success towards a Thailand 4.0, therefore she encouraged women to keep developing themselves and move forward to keep up with changing surroundings.
The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General Mr. Sumet Mahosot gave a speech explaining that the 2017 International Women’s Day was initiated under the theme “The New Generation of Women for a Thailand 4.0”. The main activities of the day were the presentation of awards to 26 outstanding women out of the 116 nominees. The awardees were separated into 8 categories, awarded by Princess Soamsawali. Recipeients included Mrs. Saithip Montreekul Na Ayuttaya (P’Chod) from GMM Media in the category of outstanding women in the media, Ms. Surivipa Kultangwattana (P’Moomam), actress, singer and show host in the category of outstanding female artist, the Legal Execution Department’s Director-General Ms. Ruenwadee Suwanmongkol for outstanding woman management executive, and Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, Acting President of Thai Airways for outstanding management executive from state enterprises.
