On September 20, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, gave a report after the 22nd Wage Committee meeting No. 9/2024. He said that today’s meeting did not fail, but the quorum was not complete because representatives from the government sector did not attend the meeting. Two employee representatives did not participate in the meeting due to other engagements, resulting in a quorum of 2 out of 3. According to the regulations, there must be ten or more attendees. Today, the meeting presented information on the employment conditions of employees to the meeting to inform them of how many businesses currently employ employees who pay a wage of 400 Baht and what impact it has on Thai and foreign workers. According to data from the Social Security Office, if the minimum wage is 400 Baht, approximately 1 million foreign workers and 4 million Thai workers will benefit. This was presented to the meeting for acknowledgment without any voting. At the same time, the issue of wages was not presented.
Mr. Pairoj continued that since there was no quorum this time, a new meeting must be held. From the first meeting on September 16, the meeting must be held within 15 days. The committee will meet again on September 24. However, if there is still no quorum, there will be a rescheduling. However, it is expected that a conclusion will be reached, and it will be submitted to the Cabinet around October 1.
