Content Description

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha’s delegation on an official government inspection in Chiang Mai. The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Chiang Mai Province participated in the occasion too. Chiang Mai Provincial Governor Mr. Prachon Pratsakul gave a welcome.

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin led the Prime Minister to visit activities that the Ministry of Labour has worked on with the Chiang Mai Provincial Police Region 5 on preventing and treating drug issues. If a drug user is found, they will be introduced into treatment. The Ministry of Labour will conduct vocational training and recruitment services to provide jobs. In addition, the Ministry of Labour will help with supervision through volunteer workers. From there, the Labour Minister also led the Prime Minister to observe a demonstration of vocational training and a showcase of products that have been upgraded, led by agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Chiang Mai Province. This consisted of the Pin Community Cotton Product Group in Chiang Mai, the occupational group labour volunteers on drugs, the professional group making herbal products for health and beauty, and a demonstration on massaging, natural fabric dyeing, embroidery, and fabric decoration, for example. In addition, the Chiang Mai Provincial Employment Office also brought Mobile Unit to provide online recruitment services. The occasion took place at Wat Weruwan School, Nong Phueng Subdistrict, Saraphi District, Chiang Mai Province.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister met with a group of informal workers and encouraged the leaders of subdistrict labour volunteers and the Chiang Mai Provincial labour network, who came to welcome them. Labour volunteers are important in linking the Ministry of Labour’s missions to the area. They have sacrificed themselves for the public, working closely with people in the community in delivering missions and coordinating labour services to sustain people with jobs, skills, occupations, income, protection, and social security.

Mr. Suchart continued that said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, give importance to the promotion of occupations in the informal network of workers, including community enterprise groups, to support employment at the local level and further develop into SME entrepreneurs. The efforts align with the government’s policy that focuses on informal workers because it is the country’s largest portion of the workforce. They are an important force driving the country’s economic development to compete with other countries. Currently, the Ministry of Labour has proposed the Act to Promote the Development of Quality of Life and Protection of Informal Workers B.E..…. to take care of informal workers. The Cabinet approved the principle on December 28, 2021, to improve the quality of life for informal workers to have access to basic occupational rights and ensure protection with social security, allowing them to form groups to establish an organization.
