PM Shows Concern about Deceased Thai Women in Oman and Instructs the Labour Minister to Assign Five Labour Leaders to Visit the Family in Sakon Nakhon

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the case of the media that published news on social media via Facebook that a Thai woman named Praew was thrown from a 4th-floor building in Oman, causing her death on May 27. The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha care for all Thai workers working abroad and expressed his condolences to the family of the worker who passed away. The Labour Minister received a report from Mrs. Palida Ruamkham, Ambassador Counselor (on Labour) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The report said that from coordination with the Embassy in Muscat, Oman, it was learned that the said Thai woman, Ms . Supparat Nganlasoma, from Sakon Nakhon Province, traveled on a tourist visa to work as a massage therapist in Oman. Her husband is also in Oman. The incident happened, which caused her death. Currently, the police are investigating the case, which may take about a week or more, depending on the case. If the police have concluded the case, the Ambassador in Muscat will issue a death certificate to the deceased and transport the corpse or ashes back to Thailand for religious ceremonies, according to the relatives’ wishes. Having received the preliminary information, the Labour Minister has instructed the Labour Ambassadors at all Labour Offices to increase the supervision of Thai people working abroad.
          Mr. Suchart also assigned the Labour Office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which is responsible for the care of workers in Oman, to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate funeral arrangements following the wishes of the relatives. Today, he assigned agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Sakon Nakhon Province, which is the domicile of the deceased Thai woman, to visit the area with the District Chief, the Local Government Organization, and the Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, paying a visit to the family to encourage them and to provide information on procedures for assistance. They also explained the benefit entitlement of Thai workers traveling to work abroad from the Ministry of Labour. They informed the process of handling the bodies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ supervision.
          According to data from the Department of Employment, as of April 2022, there are currently 112 Thai workers who are expected to still be working in Oman. Of this population, 34 traveled with their arrangements, seven by employers, and 71 were re-entries. Most of the employees worked as spa massage therapists, traditional massagers, welders, maintenance technicians, and cooks, earning an average of 30,000 to 60,000 Baht per month.
