PM Shows Concern for Employees Impacted in Construction Site Accident and Instructs Labour Minister to Expedite Remedies to the Deceased’s Families and Injured Employees

       On February 17, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about assisting workers injured and killed in the construction site incident at the One Bangkok Project, Rama IV Road, Lumpini Subdistrict, Pathumwan District, Bangkok, with Italian-Thai Development PCL as the construction contractor. There was an accident in which the steel supporting the casting of concrete collapsed while the concrete was being poured. As a result, three employees died, and three were injured. He said that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha expressed his condolences for the incident and urged the Ministry of Labour to urgently assist the relatives of the deceased and injured workers. He instructed the Social Security Office to review the insurance coverage of the deceased and injured employees and expedite the coordination of assistance and remedies for the workers to receive their entitlements urgently.

       Mr. Suchart continued that an investigation by the Bangkok Social Security Office Area 4 found that the three insured employees who died at the scene were Mrs. Boonhome Wangma, 42, Mrs. Praphai Supma, 58, and Ms. Udon Leksan, 47. The Bangkok Social Security Office Area 4 considers that the deaths of the three employees were due to working for their employer. Their dependents and families have the right to receive compensation under the Compensation Act B.E. 2537 and the Social Security Fund old age pension. The family of Mrs. Boonhome Wangma will receive funeral expenses of 50,000 Baht, compensation of 6,374.20 Baht per month for ten years, totaling 764,904 Baht, and old age pension in case of death for 10,201.69 Baht, for a total of 825,105.69 Baht. The family of Mrs. Praphai Supma will receive funeral expenses of 50,000 Baht, compensation of 6,428.80 Baht per month for ten years, totaling 771,456 Baht, and an old-age pension in case of death for 63,064.83 Baht, for a total of 884,520.83 Baht. The family of Ms. Udon Leksan will receive funeral expenses of 50,000 Baht, compensation of 6,447 Baht per month for ten years, totaling 773,640 Baht, and old age pension in case of death for 74,835.08 Baht, for a total of 898,475.08 Baht.

       The three injured workers who are now back to work have the right to receive compensation under the Compensation Act B.E. 2537, which includes medical expenses on actual cost, following the ministerial regulations, and compensation for taking leave for medical reasons from being unable to work, at the rate of 70 percent of the monthly wages, not exceeding one year.
The Social Security Office will coordinate with the relatives of the deceased and the injured employee to request compensation benefits as soon as possible, following the next steps.
