PM Shows Concern for Subcontractors in Rayong and Instructs Labour Minister to Monitor, Assist and Support with Vacancies

Content Description

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the progress of helping subcontract employees from a renowned factory in Amata City Rayong Province. He said that Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha has monitored the situation and cared for workers in such cases. Therefore, the Labour Minister urged the agencies under the jurisdiction to expedite an investigation. If the case is an actual termination of employment as presented in the news, there will be assistance to the employees by following the legal protection and benefits immediately. Additionally, 159,703 vacancies are prepared to support the workers via the online “Thai mee ngan tum” platform, offered on both web and mobile application services.
The Rayong Labour Protection and Welfare Office visited the area to investigate the fact. It reported its findings that the company announced a temporary cessation of business under Section 75 of the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 and paid employees at 75 percent of their employees’ wages. There have not been any layoffs of the company’s employees.
“The government has not stayed inactive. The Prime Minister is concerned about the workers and instructed the Ministry of Labour to investigate the facts to expedite benefits and assistance to employees immediately. The Ministry of Labour itself has asked the Labour Protection and Welfare Office’s Inspector-General in the area to clarify and understand the guidelines for assisting with various benefits to the employees so that the company can continue to comply with the law properly,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
