“Pol.Gen. Adul” Boost Investor Confidence with EEC Labour Administration Center

             The Labour Minister met with relevant agencies on the implementation of the EEC Labour Administration Center to meet labour demand and boost investor confidence in the EEC area.

 

 



            On November 28, 2018, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the meeting to discuss the implementation of the EEC Labour Administration Center at the Prof. Nikom Conference Room on the 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. He said that government policy under the 20-year strategic framework has six areas of action including security, competitiveness, human resource development, reduction of disparity, development of environmental sustainability and management efficiency. The government has set Chonburi, Chachoengsao and Rayong as the Eastern region and Special Economic Zone whereby on April 11, 2018, Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha ordered the Ministry of Labour as the main unit in working with the Ministry of Industry, the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, BOI and related agencies to establish a database on the existing workforce and estimate labour demand in various sectors within the targeted industries in the EEC area. The Ministry of Labour has driven the implementation of the EEC Labor Administration Center with the primary goals of 1) Drive the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor 2) Build investor confidence whereby the EEC Labour Administration Center has the mission to provide employment services, work permit authorization, skills development, labour protection, and social security benefits.

            Pol.Gen. Adul said that the Ministry of Labour has prepared initial workforce data to drive the EEC by preparing manpower according to the needs of the organization. The EEC area currently has 37,296 establishments, employing 1,549,976 workers, with demand (as of September) for 14,767 workers from 1,011 establishments. Divided into the 10 targeted industries, this included 969 in modern motor vehicles, 681 in intelligent electronics, 323 in high-income and health tourism, 496 in food processing, 506 in aviation and logistics, 66 in fuel and biochemicals, 25 in digital and 33 in medicine. So far the robotics, agriculture and biotechnology have provided no data on labour demand, whereas the five-year labour demand trend (2017-2021) in the 10 target industries in the medium and long-term is estimated at 177,000.

            Today’s meeting was a significant milestone for the progress of the EEC Labour Administration Center, workforce production and development planning, including the consideration on the establishment of the EEC Labour Administration Center and integration between the Ministry of Labour and relevant agencies.
