“Pol.Gen. Adul” Checks Visa Center in Support of Andaman Tourism Businesses

          The Labour Minister visited Phuket to meet super workers promoting tourist businesses of the Andaman coast and presented policies to heads of government under the Ministry of Labour to drive policies to concrete results. He also followed up on the progress of establishing a visa and work permit center to facilitate organizations and foreigners applying for a work permit through the Single Window system.  

 

 

           On November 27, 2018, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo and committee travelled to the Phuket area to visit the workforce in training to become super workers to promote the Andaman tourism businesses, including massage, spa, Thai food and bartenders at the Phuket Skill Development Institute 21. In 2018, 6,408 skilled workers were trained, 1,065 assessed for skill standards, 565 evaluated for knowledge and 204 organizations supported comprising 33,425 employees. In addition, there are training courses aligned with 10 target industries including bartenders, Thai and international cooks, food and beverage service staff, food and nutrition management on board, techniques for serving wine, holistic health promoters and Western spas, Thai massage for health, e-commerce development, online stores, yachtsmen and foreign languages for example.
           From there the Labour Minister chaired the meeting to present policies and directions to the heads of government agencies in Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi and Ranong, and urged them to follow the Ministry of Labour’s policy (3A) in 2019 which comprises 13 agenda based, 4 area based and 7 administration based policies. He said that provincial labour offices would be responsible for the implementation of the action plan and achieve targets, including all units under the Ministry of Labour in the area through integration, joint operations and networks of both internal and external agencies, including labour networks in a civil form. There is an action plan to work together as “One Plan” so that the implementation of the ministry’s policy can be achieved, and goals are met effectively, transparently and verifiably.
           The Labour Minister followed up on the establishment of a visa and work permit center at the Phuket Employment Office to check the availability of facilities, personnel, equipment and operating systems. There currently are 19,257 skilled foreign workers employed in the area, including 17,661 temporary workers, 247 investment promoters and 1,226 Single Window for work permits and minorities. 17 establishments are operating in the Single Window for visa and work permits comprising 12 types of businesses. The top 5 types of businesses with the more foreigners who have applied through the Single Window for a visa and work permit are sales management, hospitality, electronic commerce, aquariums and software products.
           In Phuket, there are 321,440 workers, 317,022 employed and 4,418 unemployed, with an unemployment rate of 1.37 percent. There are 88,469 informal workers, 82,358 from non-agricultural and 6,111 from the agricultural sector, with 84,478 foreign workers. There are 10,925 organizations and 171,636 insurers under Section 33, 27,541 under Section 39 and 25,269 under Section 40.
