Content Description

The Labour Minister showed concern for flood victims in the South and emphasised coordination among units in preparation for occupational assistance and rehabilitation plans after water levels lower.

On December 19, 2018, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo reported that the floods in Nakhon Si Thammarat and many provinces in the South had widely affected the public; thus the government by the Ministry of Labour had concerns for the people in the affected areas. For the rehabilitation and relief of flood victims in the South, the Ministry of Labour has prepared a plan to help people recover, especially the target groups which are workers, employees, employers and the public. In the pre-disaster phase, the Ministry of Labour has provided workers with technical knowledge for the benefit of disaster prevention and mitigation. It has checked the labour data of those who have been affected, to assist with the protection and legal claims. In the rehabilitation phase, it has prepared occupational training and employment services for those who have been affected.
In Nakhon Si Thammarat, the flood has affected 21 districts, 141 subdistricts, 1,070 villages, 70 communities, 1
city municipal and 1 municipality. A total of 130,865 people has been affected, with reports of 3 deaths already; 2 were male in a freelance occupation and 1 was a student. In the cases of death, the Social Security Office has checked the benefits and found that there was 1 insurer under Section 33, Mr. Veerasak Pohyim, from 2011 to April 2013; he had a pension fund of 420.60 Baht. The Nakhon Si Thammarat Labour Office worked with the provincial Social Security Office, Li Chon branch, to find the families and will deliver the contributions on December 20th. Volunteer workers in the area coordinated with community leaders and local people to survey needs for help under the Occupational Rehabilitation Program.
Recent floods in the area have been resolved, in particular, the area around the outskirts has returned to normal; the 17 remaining districts have only a few floods. It is expected that if there is no rainfall within 1-2 days, it will return to normal soon.
