“Pol.Gen. Adul” Concerned for Workers; Asks Employers to Prepare Protection Equipment for Employees

           The Labour Minister showed concern for workers, students and the public who have to travel back to the workplace and do outdoor activities The Labour Minister has issued measures for the SSO to promote workplace employees at-risk groups to undergo medical checkups, whereby medical expenses will be covered for employees who are unwell from the pollution. The NESDB also issued a letter to establishments to provide dust protection equipment for employees to wear while working outside the premises and traveling to and from work. The ministry is ready to check construction sites and eliminate dust diffusion during construction.

 

 

           On January 31, 2019, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo spoke about the current pollution situation which exceeds the standard value in many areas, which may affect the daily lives of workers, students and the general public that travel to and from work and conduct outdoor activities. The Ministry of Labour is concerned for the people and has therefore taken appropriate measures. It has ordered the Social Security Office to campaign and encourage employees to have health checks to assess the impact from the pollution, whereby medical expenses will be covered for employees who have become unwell from the pollution.
           Pol.Gen. Adul assigned the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to issue a letter to establishments requesting employers to provide dust protection equipment for employees to wear during their journey to and from the workplace as well as during off-site work. There is an additional written order to Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Offices nationwide, Work Safety Centers in Areas 1-12, Bangkok Labour Protection and Welfare Offices in Areas 1-10, and inspections on construction sites. If large amounts of dust are found in the investigations, the employer will be asked to provide dust protection equipment to employees and eliminate dust diffusion during construction.
           Furthermore, the Labour Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary of Labour Pol.Maj. Romayong Surakitbunharn gave hygiene masks to protect security and cleaning staff from pollution while working.
