“Pol.Gen. Adul” Kicks Off “MOL Friendly Design for All” Campaign to Promote Employment and Facilities for Disabled

            On December 2, 2018, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo presided over the kick-off ceremony for the “Ministry of Labour Friendly Design for All” and awarded badges to organizations promoting employment of the disabled, which took place in Hall 2, Impact Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province. He said that the government had emphasized the importance of the elderly and disabled, forming laws to enforce public buildings and facilities to provide accessibility to the disabled, such as ramps, parking spaces, accessible restrooms and walking paths for the visually impaired, to fully utilize and prepare becoming an aged society.
            Pol.Gen. Adul explained that the Ministry of Labour plays a vital role in ensuring employment, proper welfare, and labour protection, social security coverage and helps to train workers to enter the labour market, reducing disparity, generate income and create jobs for the disabled. It integrates with all sectors, including the private sector, civil society, disability organizations and networks, and other relevant units to support people with disabilities to earn a living, so that they can depend on themselves. This will lead to a better quality of life for them, their family, the community and become a power of society in national development. The facilities are essential to support people with disabilities to work more conveniently and live life as normal.

            Thailand has a population of 69 million. There are 11 million seniors, 2 million disabled people, 38 million in the workforce and 880,000 disabled people in the working age group. In legislation, Thailand has laws that promote opportunities for people with disabilities to access careers under Section 33 and Section 35. If any establishment employs 100 people, one person must be disabled. If a disabled person is not hired, the employer must contribute to the Fund for the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities under Section 34, to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to access the workplace, earn a living for themselves and live like ordinary people.
