On December 21, 2018, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo; Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark; Director of the Department of Employment, Mrs. Petcharat Sinauy and committee travelled to check Thai workers in Moshav, in the Southern part of Israel. As some media agencies broadcasted news about the exploitation of Thai workers in Israel, compensated lower than the minimum wage by law, working in conditions that did not meet contractual obligations, living in unhygienic living conditions and not safe from the war, the Labour Minister and committee thus travelled to inspect the living conditions of the workers themselves. They also listened to problems and checked the accommodation of the workers’ that employers established after complaints were made about inappropriate housing.

Pol.Gen. Adul said that from the inspection and conversation with workers, employers here did not care for workers very well, including the environment which was not so good. Most importantly, some workers were told off by employers for drinking, sometimes causing the inability to wake up early to work usually. However, there was only a minority of Thai workers who were involved with alcohol, drugs and gambling; in most cases, the workers were hard working. The Labour Minister urged the Labour Department at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv to closely supervise the workers and to send back any misbehaving workers to Thailand. As for employers that do not care for the workers according to the regulations, workers can apply to change the employers as well.

On the same occasion, the Labour Minister and committee gave gifts to boost morale and encouragement for Thai workers. They also showed concerned about the safety of the workers in the event of unrest along the Gaza border, inspecting the border and shelters. The Labour Minister gave an address to the Thai workers who came to welcome the visiting party, saying that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has given concern to all Thai workers in Israel, especially about health and illness and that workers must maintain healthily, refrain from drugs, intoxication, gambling and all vices. Has urged everyone to work hard, save money, collect work experience and work to continue their career when returning to Thailand.
