The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep gave a press conference on the organization of the 31st National Health and Safety Week. He explained that on the 26th of June, Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul will chair the commencement of 31st National Health and Safety Week, awarding 258 organizations that meet the criteria for the Zero Accident 2017 campaign. The week will be organized at BITEC Bangna from 26 June – 1 July, under the theme “Safety Thailand, Safety Together”, through collaborations with 10 main ministries comprising the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment.
The Labour Minister reiterated workplace safety, particularly with cranes whereby the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare has worked on this, having inspected 816 organizations using cranes during 1 February to 15 June, whereby 336 were found using the cranes incorrectly; warnings were issued with direction for improvements. Accidents arising from use of cranes has decreased by 38.27 percent, with deaths decreasing by 0.94 percent and severe accidents resulting in time off work reducing by 42.86 percent.
