Prime Minister Yingluck Chinawatra visited South Korea to learn about the anti-flood project according to YONHAP NEWs on 25 April 2012.
Prime Minister Yingluck visited a reservoir near the Namhan River in Yeoju during an official visit to South Korea for attending Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul. She discussed and exchanged views with Mr. Shim Myung- Pil, the head of National Rivers Restoration Office.
In the past four years, Thailand faced flood crisis and paid attention to South Korea’s anti-flood project. Thailand allocated budget totally 420 million dollar to recover damages from flood and in the beginning of December 2011, it announced to invest in building water control system for 11,660 dollar.
In this regard, South Korea put out the flood control method for Chaopraya River such as building dam and reservoir by using Republic of Korea’s techniques. Prime Minister Yingluck also agreed to cooperate actively to establish a water resources management system. The sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation in water management.
