On 28 May 2017 at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkram Conference Room, Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the public seminar on 2 years of the 4th edition of the Social Security Act B.E. 2558, Section 63(2) concerning health promotion and disease prevention. She said that the project was initiated to follow up progress on health promotion and disease prevention in accordance with the act, and to present additional direction and measures in alignment with insurers’ companies. The meeting also discussed health issues experienced by the workforce which the Permanent Secretary said was important, as workers spend most their day at the workplace, sometimes over 8 hours a day. For this reason, she said that problems should be solved from the root rather than problem as done in the past, as this would result in economic loss from medical expenses and in some cases, workers are not fully cured.
“It’s time for all relevant units to work together and support insurers in caring for themselves through changing hygiene behaviours and less reliance on medical care. This includes improving the working environment to be safer and cleaner for an improved workforce, able to work more efficiently with better outcome on driving the economy sustainably,” said the Permanent Secretary of Labour.
The debate and exchange of guidelines on health promotion and disease prevention under Section 63(2) for insurers had many participants including Chairman of the 9th Compensation Fund Committee M.D. Sirichai Ratanawaraha, President of the Workmen Insurer Network Mr. Manas Kosol, Associate Professor Dr. Sara Arphorn from the Faculty of Public Health in Mahidol University, the Social Security Office’s Secretariat Mr. Suradej Waleeittikul and Director of the Bureau of Occupational and Environmental Diseases M.D. Chantana Padungtod, representing the National Health Security Office (NHSO).
