His opening speech spoke about King Rama 9 and his achievements in national development and that his philosophies and teachings will continue to live on and be remembered by the people. He explained that over the past 2 years, the government has upheld these royal teachings and philosophies to drive the nation forward, escaping poverty, inequality and developmental imbalance. The government’s focus today is on human resource development and stability for the people, strengthening the nation internally first; one of the valuable royal teachings.

The Ministry of Labour, which is responsible for human resource development and compensation for the workforce, has integrated royal principles and the sustainable economy philosophy in its missions and 20-year human resource development plan. The plan focuses on promoting decent work and higher productivity, coupled with fair compensation and benefits for a better quality of life for the people. The ministry’s plans also promote savings cooperatives in enterprises, which not only benefit the workers and organization, but also teaches the people about savings, a crucial element of the sustainable economy philosophy. The Labour Miniister explained that such scheme also promotes collaboration between employer and employee, using democratic ways and good governance to manage a sustainable cooperative. On behalf of the Ministry of Labour, General Sirichai thanked organizations with already established savings cooperatives for their employees, and then invited participants from the private sector and state enterprises to uphold the sustainable economy philosophy and establish saving cooperatives for communal benefit.
“It is important to create awareness and cooperation in establishing saving cooperatives in the organization. This year, we aim to promote at least 30 organizations to establish savings cooperatives in an effort to eliminate informal debt,” said General Sirichai.
