Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti chaired the receipt of 300 tons of cement alongside the Department of Skills Development’s Director-General Mr. Teerapol Koonmuang. The cement was given by Siam City Cement, represented by Mr. Siwa Mahasantana at the Pakorn Angsusingh Conference Room. After the event, the Permanent Secretary of Labour said, “Siam City Cement is one of the ministry’s long term partners, particularly with the Department of Skills Development where it has consistently given sponsorship with at least 300 tons of cement annually since 1995. The cement donated to us will be used in training construction workers and for public infrastructure such as temples, schools and other community facilities. The Company has also sponsored national skills competitions through supply of cement, helping to create employment, professions and income for the workforce in alignment with the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy on stability, prosperity and sustainability.”
The alliance is an important move in promoting stable careers and improving the quality of lives of the people, in alignment with the ministry’s agendas for reform. On 26 May, 24 companies including Siam City Cement will consult ways to improve training for construction workers, catering to communities and lower-income groups. The training project aims to cover at least 10,000 people. This year, the Department of Skills Development has already trained 6,215 workers, focusing on the lower-income and informal worker groups.
In addition to this, Siam Advance Tech has also supported the computer engineering design category of the International Skills Competition with 200,000 Baht.
