Statistics Reveal 24,168 Employers and 74,396 Migrant Worker Registrations in 2 Days

         The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep revealed that the 100 special centers (11 in Bangkok and 89 provincially) to support foreign worker management efforts had released operational reports on 25 July 2017, the second day of operations. Statistics (as of 25 July at 17.00) showed a total 24,168 registered employers, 21,256 of which applied at the center and 2,912 online. On the other hand, a total of 74,396 migrant workers were registered, 69,655 at the centers and 4,740 through online means. From the total number of migrant workers, 46,058 were Burmese, 17,791 were Cambodian and 10,520 were Laotian. The top three industries with migrant worker applications were agriculture and livestock with 17,238 workers, construction with 11,573 workers and the food and beverages industry with 7,374 workers.
    Mr. Ananchai added that the top 5 provinces with the highest number of applicants were in Bangkok with a total of 17,989 workers, 3,661 in Chiang Mai, 3,554 in Pathum Thani, 3,333 in Nakhon Pathom and Ratchaburi with 2,516 workers. The total cumulative number of employers from 23 June to 25 July 2017 were 658,589 employers, with 393,113 applying for additional quota, 96,401 applying for permits, 13,536 applying for extensions, 51,111 applying to change employers, 29,241 applying to add locations of work, 54,981 submitting termination forms and 20,206 applications to move location. In addition to this, it was found that 34,056 workers had returned to their home countries, whereas there were 22,367 calls to the Department of Employment’s 1694 hotline most of which asked about the work permits, followed by changing employers and adding additional locations.
    The Ministry of Labour thus urged employers with migrant workers without the necessary documentation to report and register their workers at any of the 100 centers nationwide, or submit applications via the www.doe.go.th website from today until 7 August 2017, in order to complete the processes within the given time.
