Since Tuesday, February 23, 2010 is the 26-year anniversary of the Independence Day of Brunei from the domination of the U.K. Sultan of Brunei has a royal command blessing upon the Bruneian to adhere to the Islamic doctrine and to be grateful for the fatherland. Also, he reminds of Bruneian people in 3 important issues. The first is to creatively express appreciation of the history and national pride in order to permanently sustain the existence of the country forever.  That is to say, governmental officials and all parties have to harmoniously get the work done by any set deadline, must not procrastinate, and leave any work unfinished — for instance, the project of repairing homes, schools, mosques, and etc. Secondly, country development has to practically consider the impact on the environment and should not destroy the ecosystem, which is in essence the only thing that truly makes people happy. Towards this end, the Bruneian government declared the law, enforcing now and expecting the effective output, to protect environment such as preserving the perfection of the soil or cultivation, maintaining fresh air, keeping water clean for consumption, and sustaining sea water without pollution. Finally, the third is to be careful with spending habit, emphasizing on the misuse of a credit card. Overspending can inevitably cause suffering for oneself and one’s family.
For Thailand, His Majesty the King has a congratulations royal letter to the Sultan of Brunei and greets well to the native population of Brunei. In addition to monitoring of the general situation from Office of Labour Affairs Brunei, government agencies and private sectors assign the date to be a national holiday. People celebrate by going shopping for special priced goods or going on a vacation as it is the national holiday.
