Office of Labour Affairs in Hong Kong has opened a Cantonese course, which is designed to heighten the quality of lives of Thai workers in Hong Kong. The seven-week long course, running from July 17 – September 4, is taught by the Thai Regional Alliance in Hong Kong.
On Sunday 31st July 2011, the course attendees were given an opportunity to practice their language skill in a real-life situation in a subway station. Among the attendees were newly arrived Thai housekeepers. They had an opportunity to practice their Cantonese and learn how to buy a subway ticket, transfer a train, listen to basic instruction and signs, and enquire information related to subway direction from the officials.
