The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and committee visited Thai workers who went to work in agriculture in northern and central Israel and revealed that Thai workers were satisfied with the working and employment conditions and good income, averaging 40,000 – 48,000 Baht per month. The committee also emphasized a commitment to work, money savings to return to families and to not interfere with vices and drugs.
On June 13, 2019, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Apinya Sucharitanan and a committee of departmental inspectors including the Department of Employment’s Inspector-General Mr. Suwan Duangta, the Department of Skill Development’s Inspector-General Mr. Chakrit Decha and the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Inspector-General Mrs. Udomluk Sornsari visited Thai workers working in the northern part of Israel at Kibbutz Matsuva, which is in the northernmost area at the Israel – Lebanon border. The area is a large banana farm in Israel with 14 Thai workers, mostly from the northeastern region. From discussions, the Thai workers were satisfied with the working and employment conditions, and proper living conditions.
The committee then proceeded to Kibbutz Ein Sivan on the northernmost border of Israel-Syria, to a cherry garden business for tourism with 9 Thai workers. The Thai workers were satisfied with the working conditions and wages following the law. The committee expressed the Ministry of Labour’s concern for workers working near the border area and emphasized for the Thai workers to save money, return them to their families, not interfere with gambling and drugs and to contact the Labour Department for all consultations and assistance.
On June 14, 2019, Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Apinya Sucharitanan and committee traveled to meet employers and visited Thai workers working in the central region of Israel at Kibbutz Ramatachel, a cherry garden, with 10 Thai workers. From discussions with the Thai workers, it was found that they were satisfied with the working and employment conditions. The workers were mostly from the northeast, with an average monthly income of 5,000 – 6,000 Shekels (NIS) or about 40,000 – 48,000 Baht and were living in appropriate conditions. The inspectors emphasized that the workers’ practice diligence, patience, willingness to work, refrain from drugs and gambling, and harvest experiences and knowledge in agricultural technology to be adapted and furthered in their occupation when returning to Thailand. They also emphasized that if there is a problem or need labour assistance is needed, to consult the Labour Department at the embassy.
