Thailand Elected as Regular Member of ILO with Highest Score in APAC

            On 12 June 2017, a vote was held to elect a regular member of the ILO for the 2017-2021 term. The vote showed the confidence in Thailand’s previous accomplishments with 230 votes from a total 251 votes from government representatives. This was the highest score in Asia Pacific. Following Thailand was South Korea (229 votes) then Bahrain and Iran (223 votes). The committee will be responsible for designing policy and managing the ILO, leasing the ASEAN region as the ASEAN coordinator at the global level. The elected member will commence the 330 round of duties on 17 June 2017.
            In the meeting on 13 June 2017, the Labour Minister gave an address to the meeting, presenting the ministry’s vision on labour management under the theme “green initiatives”. The Labour Minister then met ILO Diretor-General Mr. Guy Ryder to present ratification of ILO Convention 111 concerning discrimination on employment and occupation.
