Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labor welcomes to Ms. Dana Graber Ladek, Head of International Agency for Migration, Thailand on the occasion of the visit and introduce staff who work on the cooperation project between the Ministry of Labor and IOM at the Executive Operation Room, 5th Floor, Ministry of Labor. Mr. Jarin thanked IOM for working with the Ministry of Labor including trafficking issues, forced labor, and illegal labor. This is the Thai government’s priority. At present, there are about 3.5 million foreign workers in Thailand, of whom 1.5 million are legal immigrants and the other 2 million are illegal immigrants. There are cases of forced labor. The Thai Ministry of Labor has stated that the Thai government has a policy to address these issues. By March 31, 2018, all migrant workers would be legally registered in the city. The database of migrant workers is provided to the government agencies, can access, contains information, identity verification, make a record: What is the name, nationality, job? with who? This will allow foreign workers to come into protection wages to get a holiday, working environment and get the legal benefits of Thailand.
IOM thanks the Ministry of Labor in the implementation of the Israel Cooperation Program. It also received support from the Ministry of Labor in implementing the Safe Migration Program, Skill Development, and Strengthening the Workforce to understand the employment relationship between employers and employees regarding the laws and regulations of the Ministry of Labor, and the Thai Government (PROMISE), Immunization Prevention and Mitigation Program (MAPP) and anti-trafficking.
