On 15 May 2017, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Soothi Sukosol led Thai representatives to join the APEC senior ministerial meeting on policies regarding human resource development in the digital age. The meeting was held at the Hanoi National Convention Center in Vietnam. Participants included representatives from the APEC economics industry, APEC secretariat’s office and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Representatives from Thailand came from the Ministry of Education and the International Institute for Trade and Development. The meeting was a stage for senior executives of the APEC economy to meet and exchange know-how on human resource and policies to support labour shortages, particularly in the digital age, as well as training and curriculum management for labour development and labour protection.
Mr. Soothi said that Thailand had given great importance to human resource development in the digital age, coupled with technological skills development to meet international standards. He spoke about the integration of technology in setting directions for educational development, promoting technical and vocational education and equipping the workforce with the necessary skills, enabling the Thai workforce to move towards a “Brainpower” phase. Mr. Soothi also spoke about the digital integration with the Ministry of Labour, where a mobile application has been launched to facilitate job search and information about benefits and entitlements. He also spoke about national qualifications and skill standards to maintain fair compensation in alignment with skills and knowledge. On the topic of social protection, Thailand has extended social security coverage for both informal and formal workers, coupled with the establishment of a pension and provident fund which promotes long-term savings. As for cyber-crime prevention, he explained that Thailand is prepared to give its full cooperation.
