The First Batch Departs; Labour Minister Discusses the Return of Thai Workers to Israel and Instructs the Secretariat to Prioritize Worker Safety

     On June 25, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, assigned the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, and the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan to visit and encourage the first batch of Thai workers who will travel to work in the agricultural sector in Israel, after Thailand’s pause on sending workers to Israel.

    The Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, said that today, the Ministry of Labour is scheduled to send the first 100 Thai workers to Israel, part of the quota of 10,000 workers, under the “Thailand-Israel Cooperation on the Placement of Workers” (TIC). The workers traveled via a particular charter flight, El Al Israel Airlines, flight LY 084, with 40 people, departing from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand, at 16.25 hours, arriving at Ben-Gurion Airport, Tel Aviv at 23.00 hours local time. Another flight was LY082, with 60 people, departing from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thailand at 23.55 hours, arriving at Ben-Gurion Airport, Tel Aviv at 06.30 hours local time. This group of workers is the first group to travel to work in Israel after a pause of over 8 months due to the unrest. Travels will soon be scheduled again on June 26, 2024, and July 2 to 3, 2024. Deployments will gradually continue until 540 people are complete within July.

     “The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat, gives importance and praise to Thai workers who travel to work abroad. Such workers are an important force in the economic and social development of the country. The Ministry of Labour is therefore committed to promoting, supporting, and developing the process of sending Thai workers to work abroad to be efficient and to expand the Thai labor market abroad according to the minister’s policy. This year, we will gradually send Thai workers to work in Israel until we reach 10,000 people as per the set goal,” said the Labour Minister’s Secretariat.

    The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has emphasized that the Department of Employment takes good care of Thai workers who will travel to work in Israel. Before traveling, everyone will receive training to prepare them in various aspects so that they can work confidently, especially with guidelines for coping in emergency/war situations, including channels for asking for help from relevant agencies in the event of problems while working. The Thai workers traveling to work under the “Thai-Israeli Cooperation for Employment (TIC)” have an employment period of 5 years and three months, a starting income of 5,880 Israeli shekels per month, or approximately 50,000 – 55,000 Baht, not including overtime pay (depends on the exchange rate at that time).
