The Ministry of Labor joined the 4th ILO Regional Skill Development Working Group Meeting in Manila, Republic of the Philippines.

            Mr. Viwat Tanghong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, led the Thai delegation to attend the 4th ILO Regional Skill Development Working Group Meeting, organized by the ILO and the Vocational Training and Skill Development (TESDA) The aim of the workshop is to promote the development of skilled workers from ASEAN countries. ILO’s Mutual Recognition of Skills (MRS), exchange of experience in promoting law enforcement and institutional strengthening to drive MRS, and discuss future MRS driving directions through a pilot project between ASEAN Member Countries.

 

           The main topics in the meeting included the lectures on the opportunities and challenges of human resource development, the progress of the AQRF, professional skills development (TVET), initiatives and activities. Link to the MRS drive, and discussions on the MRS drive through the roadmap, and national action plan.

           Participants included representatives from ASEAN Member Countries, who were the main coordinators for Skill Development. Previously attended the meetings on MRS and its main coordinators, ASEAN Senior Officials on Labor (SLOM), ASEAN Secretariat, representatives of professional institutions, representatives of employers ‘organizations, representatives of workers’ organizations, ASEAN Confederation of Employers, And the ASEAN trade unions, 60 people. There are representatives from the Office of International Cooperation, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, and the Department of Skill Development from Thailand attended the meeting.

           On this occasion, Thailand has bilaterally negotiated with Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia to discuss ways to drive the national action plan 2018-2019 to promote skills training and promote standardized testing. Skills of instructors from neighboring countries in accordance with Thai standards. In Thailand, there is a need to respond to the labor market, including bricklaying and electricity transmission with Cambodia, bricklaying and plastering with Laos and the use of industrial machinery and construction with Myanmar.
