The Labour Office in Manila (Kaohsiung City Branch) reported current avian flu conditions in Taiwan. The Taiwanese government has elevated measures on preventing the H5N6 virus with the establishment of an avian flu emergency response center which will monitor the 165 infected people, most of which are government officers preventing further outbreak and workers in the poultry slaughter industry.
The Ministry of Labour has thus cautioned both Thai workers travelling and Thai workers already in Taiwan to beware of avian flu breakouts. Thai nationals in Taiwan can seek more information from the Labour Office in Manila (Kaohsiung City Branch) or call 8867-392-7620.
The Labour Office in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh) reported that Bahrain has enforced stricter laws on illegal migrants from Thailand. A total of 126 Thai nationals have already been arrested, illegally entering the country under a tourist visa with a total fine of 147,635 Dinah (equivalent to 14,025,325 Baht excluding return air tickets to Thailand). The fine is calculated from 50 Bahrain Dinah for every month overstayed, equivalent to 4,750 Baht (exchange rate of 1 Dinah to 95 Baht). The Labour Office has thus cautioned Thai workers entering Bahrain with a visa on arrival (which allows 14 days) with intent to work in Bahrain.
