The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, gave a speech on the occasion of chairing the opening of the Social Security for Independent Workers Throughout Thailand Project for the third batch at Long Beach Cha-am Hotel, Phetchaburi Province. He said that this is good news for employees working at Cal-Comp Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited and Veranda Resort Public Company Limited as pilot establishments to promote welfare for the families of employees to be able to enter the social security system. Pilot establishments will help pay contributions for family members of employees who are self-employed under Section 40 for the entire working life of the employee. In the agreement, the Social Security Office has granted Social Security rights under Section 40, Option 2, to family members of employees in the establishment. The employer will pay contributions under Section 40 to the family members of employees participating in the project, whereby one person will have one right. The project aims to build morale within the organization and support informal workers in receiving protection and benefits in various cases from Section 40 as well.
The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office provided self-employed people with knowledge and understanding of benefits and protection from Social Security Section 40. Insured persons under Section 40 will receive protection in up to five cases, including loss of income due to illness, disability, death, old age, and child support.
At present, the self-employed are focused on improving their quality of life. Therefore, it is considered the duty of the Ministry of Labour and the Social Security Office to ensure that this group of workers has security and a stable life and is ready to contribute to further developing the country’s economic system.
The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, added that in addition to creating awareness for insured persons, the Social Security Office also gives importance to the social security network. They are considered personnel who are important to social security work, as they are people who are close and can reach citizens in all areas. The Social Security Office has, therefore, brought useful information to disseminate to the social security network to be another voice that will help publicize news to the workforce.
