Workforce Development Excelled for Thailand 4.0

Content Description

Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul chaired the commencement of the “Thailand 4.0 and Future of Work: A National Dialogue” at the Conrad Hotel in Bangkok today (29 March 2017). In his statement, he said “The government has identified challenges and changes which have occurred, particularly in technological and industrial advancement which will help reform our nation. The 20-year national strategy (2017 – 2036) has therefore been devised to drive the Thailand 4.0 policy to success, focusing on economic and social structural changes through technology, innovation and intellect towards stability, prosperity and sustainability.”

The workforce is at the core of the Thailand 4.0 policy, therefore the Ministry of Labour responsible for managing the nation’s workforce has also devised its own 20-years strategy which is separated into four 5-year phases. The first is productive manpower (2017 – 2021) which focuses on standardizing labour foundations and amending regulations/legislation to keep up with the developing world. The Ministry of Labour has already taken significant actions such as ratifying relevant ILO conventions, implementing Good Labour Practices (GLP) and Thai Labour Standards (TLS), amending labour-related legislation and through the establishment of 12 advanced technological skills development institutions nationwide. The last phase in 15 years is the brainpower phase which is Thailand’s future of work where people will be equipped with knowledge and skills for high value or decent work, enjoying what they do and having stability in their lives.
On the path to the future of work, the Labour Minister concluded, “We have planned our direction in the 20-year national strategy as well as the 20-year strategy on human resources. Collaboration by the private sector, social organizations and academic institutions is necessary to reach the ultimate goals. The government and Ministry of Labour has consistently given importance to this and affirms that Thailand is ready to collaborate to ensure fairness and equality in the future of work.”
