Brunei announced the 1 month period of Ramadan which will begin on Thursday 12nd August, 2010 with an aim for Muslim to recognize and acknowledge sacrifice and respect of other people. Muslims shall abstain from food, and drink from dawn until sunset totally 12 hours (in some European countries may last for 18 hours) In the morning after breakfast and at night, they will gather to pray together. They will, however, work normally in daytime, but working time will be changed.
In Brunei, workdays are Monday-Thursday and Saturday and official holidays are Friday and Sunday. The working hours will be changed as follows; working hours of official place starts from 8.00 am. – 2.00 pm., working hours of Employees Trust Fund(TAP) starts from 08.15am. – 1.00 pm., working hours of Medical Service Centre in Bandar starts from 08.00 am. – 2.00 pm. and7.00 pm. – 10.00 pm. on Friday and Sunday during 2.00 pm. – 5.00 pm. and 7.00 pm.– 10.00pm , working hours of Medical Service Centre at Sugnaileng starts from 08.00 am. – 2.00 pm. on Friday and Sunday starts from 2.00 pm. – 9.00 pm., but Emergency Medical Unit will provide service throughout 24 hours
Office of Labour Affairs in Brunei, Royal Thai Embassy is open normally during official days/time from Monday –Friday during 08.30 am.-4.30 pm. In this regard, the end of the Ramadan marks the beginning of the Eid-Ul-Fitr in which Brunei people will pay out a lot especially for clothes, ornaments, foods, fruits, chocolate, sweets, beverage, etc. They will also open home for welcoming their relatives, friends and respectful acquainted people. Hence, Thai businessman should keep in readiness for trade and business during Eid-Ul-Fitr.
