เมื่อวันที่ 18 กุมภาพันธ์ 2567 นายพิพัฒน์ รัชกิจประการ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงแรงงาน พร้อมด้วย นายสิรภพ ดวงสอดศรี ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงแรงงาน นายไพโรจน์ โชติกเสถียร ปลัดกระทรวงแรงงาน และนายสมชาย มรกตศรีวรรณ อธิบดีกรมการจัดหางาน หารือร่วมกับกลุ่มผู้ประกอบการท้องถิ่นที่มีความต้องการจ้างแรงงานไทย ณ โรงแรม Hilton Hotel & Resort เมืองดาร์วิน เพื่อรับฟังปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการเข้ามาทำงานของแรงงานไทย โดยผู้ประกอบการได้ขอให้กระทรวงแรงงานเร่งเจรจากับรัฐบาลออสเตรเลียในการนำแรงงานไทยมาทำงานในออสเตรเลีย
นายพิพัฒน์ กล่าวว่า การมาเยือนออสเตรเลียในครั้งนี้ ผมได้หารือร่วมกับ Mr. Luke Gosling ประธานคณะกรรมาธิการประจำการพัฒนาภูมิภาคโครงสร้างพื้นฐานและการคมนาคม (Chair of Standing Committee on Regional Development, Infrastructure and Transport) ณ Solomon Office เมืองดาร์วิน เกี่ยวกับโอกาสของแรงงานไทยในออสเตรเลีย โดยเฉพาะแรงงานภาคเกษตร ซึ่งเป็นสาขาอาชีพที่แรงงานไทยมีศักยภาพ ประกอบกับเราต้องการจะเปิดตลาดแรงงานในออสเตรเลีย ซึ่งต้องขอขอบคุณ คุณลุค ก๊อสลิง (Luke Gosling) ที่ได้ให้การต้อนรับผมและคณะผู้แทนจากกระทรวงแรงงานไทย ได้เข้าพบหารือ
“ผมได้รับทราบว่าประเทศออสเตรเลียมีความต้องการแรงงานในหลายด้าน ทั้งแรงงานทักษะสูง และแรงงานฝีมือในภาคอุตสาหกรรมต่าง ๆ โดยเฉพาะในภาคการเกษตร ภาคการดูแล การค้าปลีก บริการ และท่องเที่ยว ในวันนี้ผมจึงได้มาเยือนออสเตรเลียด้วยตนเอง เพื่อที่จะได้รับฟังความต้องการแรงงานจากผู้ประกอบการภาคการค้าและอุตสาหกรรมโดยตรง” นายพิพัฒน์ กล่าว
ด้าน คุณลุค ก๊อสลิง (Luke Gosling) ประธานคณะกรรมาธิการประจำการพัฒนาภูมิภาคโครงสร้างพื้นฐานและการคมนาคม เครือรัฐออสเตรเลีย กล่าวว่า ผมยินดีจะให้ความร่วมมือ และจะนำประเด็นโอกาสและความเป็นไปได้ในการนำเข้าแรงงานไทยไปทำงานในออสเตรเลีย รวมถึงความต้องการแรงงานในภาคธุรกิจต่างๆ ไปเสนอต่อรัฐมนตรีของรัฐบาลกลาง และพร้อมจะพัฒนาความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยและออสเตรเลีย
ในด้านแรงงานให้แน่นแฟ้นยิ่งขึ้นต่อไปในอนาคต
ทั้งนี้ จากข้อมูลของกรมการจัดหางาน พบว่า ปัจจุบันมีแรงงานไทยที่ได้รับอนุญาตให้เดินทางไปทำงานในเครือรัฐออสเตรเลีย จำนวน ทั้งสิ้น 339 คน โดยในปี 2566 ที่ผ่านมา มีจำนวน ทั้งสิ้น 69 คน
On February 18, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Siraphop Duangsodsri, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Phairoj Chotikasathien, and the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, had a discussion with a group of local business operators who want to hire Thai workers at the Hilton Hotel & Resort, Darwin. They listened to issues and obstacles in recruiting Thai workers. The business operators asked the Ministry of Labour to speed up discussions with the Australian government in bringing Thai workers to work in Australia.
Mr. Phiphat said that on this visit to Australia, he had a discussion with Mr. Luke Gosling, Chair of the Standing Committee on Regional Development, Infrastructure and Transport at the Solomon Office in Darwin, about the opportunities for Thai workers in Australia, especially agricultural workers. This is an occupation in which Thai workers have potential. In addition, the intention is to open the labour market in Australia. He thanked Mr. Luke Gosling for welcoming him and the delegation from the Thai Ministry of Labour to the meeting to discuss.
“I have learned that Australia has the need for labour in many areas, including highly skilled workers and skilled workers in various industrial sectors, especially in agriculture, care, retail, services, and tourism. Today, I came to visit Australia to learn about the need for labour directly from business operators in the commercial and industrial sectors,” Mr. Phiphat said.
Mr. Luke Gosling, Chair of the Standing Committee on Regional Development, Infrastructure and Transport in Australia, said that he is happy to cooperate and will bring up the issue of opportunities and feasibility in importing Thai workers to work in Australia, including the demand for workers in various business sectors, to present to the Federal Minister, and is ready to strengthen cooperation between Thailand and Australia on labour further, in the future.
According to the Department of Employment, there are currently 339 Thai workers who were permitted to travel to work in the Commonwealth of Australia; there were a total of 69 in 2023.
